My Posterior Post...

Ok, so I forgot to post about my last midwife appointment (almost 2 weeks ago..). Nothing too exciting. I weigh 144, heart is beating, yadda yadda yadda. Newest development, she thinks Camryn might be posterior. I am not too stressed about it, but people are starting to share horror stories about how awful labor is with a posterior baby. (Nice, huh?) I was given some "homework" (things to google) and I found out I am supposed to spend 30 mins per day crawling around on my hands and knees to try to encourage her to flip. So far, I have been slacking on this.... (I know, I know... I should just do it, but 30 mins is a LONG time to crawl around!) Any suggestions???

Next appointment is on Tuesday. Maybe I will get there and learn she has flipped?? (Keep your fingers crossed for me!) I think after this appointment, I start going every week!!?!?!?

Thanks! Do you have to crawl for 30 mins straight? You should try a few mins at a time and pray that she flips :) And when I had my blood drawn, I was squeezing Chases had so hard that his thumb was turning purple!

Hey Lexi,

I don't know if you know who I am, but I live in Quail Lane. I just had my baby on the 14th and he was posterior also. It really wasn't a big deal. They had to flip him during delivery, but it honestly wasn't bad at all. Everything worked out just fine. Good luck with everything though! Hopefully your little girl will decide she wants to come out the correct way.

Mattison was posterior too, and my experience isn't any help because I ended up having an epidural because of the pain of back labor (due to being posterior) and then I ended up having a c-section (I had a lot of factors against me...she was posterior and way too big, I was limited to my bed and couldn't use the birthing ball since my water had already broken so with all of that I failed to progress). Instead of crawling, it might be easier for you to get a birthing ball (which is an exercise ball) and you get on your knees and then hang over the ball...I did that every night before I went to bed!

Luke was posterior...it's fine! He flipped as he was coming out, on his own. The pain was no more then the others. Don't listen to horror stories, they'll just psych you out. It's all the same!!!! You'll both do great and you'll wonder what all the fuss was about. (she'll flip on her own if she wants to.)

P.S. I'm always so confused when someone says there baby was too big to deliver. I know women who have had 10 lb. babies at home! Again, I just think another weird thing people psych themselves out over.

So Caydon was posterior until right before he came out. They had me get on hands and knees to try to turn him. Yeah I felt like a cow but it worked.

Lexi...I found your blog on quaillane's blog. You could come over and crawl around with Peyton, I probably spend a good half hour every day crawling around with him. I'm sure she'll turn though. By the way, you are THE MOST creative person. I love your stuff you've made for her and the nursery. You're welcome to decorate my house if you want.

I'm sorry if I freaked you out Lexi, because that was not my intentions at all...I was just giving you my experience! I researched it, and it looks as though the majority of posterior babies move to the correct position before delivery and only 5-12% of babies are still face up by the time of delivery, so if you keep crawling and using the birthing ball, you'll do fine (I only knew about the birthing ball and crawling a week before I had Matti, so at least you'll have plenty of time to help encourage Camryn into the correct position)!

To answer Niki's question, my baby WAS too big FOR ME to deliver...I pushed for over two hours and she did not move down further at all. She was 10.1 pounds and only 20 inches long...so she was above average in her weight but average in her heigth so she was short and squady with broad shoulders making it all the more difficult...after the c-section the doctor did tell me that "she would have never gotten through [me] without tearing [me] in half." There's some women that are built to deliver larger babies and I guess I wasn't one of those. Not everyone who has a sunny-side-up baby experiences back labor, so maybe you didn't get back labor with your baby being posterior, but it did for me...this website (http://childbirth---labour-delivery.suite101.com/article.cfm/back_labor)explains that not all women with posterior babies experience back labor, but for some women it does. Each person has different experiences. I didn't say that it was a HORRIBLE experience because it wasn't. And I certainly wasn't trying to psych Lexi out.
